ASEAN League round 6 best performance: Chris McLaughlin- January 18, 2023
The player had a double-double of 31 points and 18 rebounds, while his team beat Saigon Heat (#3, 5-2) 89-82. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. HK Eastern was forced-out from the top positions in ASEAN League. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. HK Eastern will need more victories to improve their 6-2 record. McLaughlin turned to be HK Eastern's top player in his first season with the team. Former University of Victoria star has very solid stats this year. McLaughlin is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 13.0rpg) and averages impressive 61.2% FGP. The second best player in last round's games was young American Amir Williams (211-C-1992) of league's leader NS Matrix. Williams had a very good evening with a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds. Of course NS Matrix cruised to a 88-79 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Singapore S. (#4, 4-3). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. NS Matrix consolidated its place in the very top position of the standings. His team has currently 6-2 record. Williams is a newcomer at NS Matrix, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.3ppg (#6). He also registered 11.5 boards per game. Third on the list of top players last round was American Marcus Hammonds (196-SF-1987) of Louvre S. (#7). Hammonds got into 30-points club by scoring 35 points in the last round. He went also for twelve rebounds . Despite Hammonds' great performance Louvre S. lost 84-88 to slightly lower-ranked Tigers (#8, 1-7). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Louvre S. can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-6 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Hammonds has individually a great season in ASEAN League. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 23.1ppg (4th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Kentrell Barkley (195-G/F-1996) of Singapore S. - 20 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists 5. Xavier Alexander (196-F-1988) of Singapore S. - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Wuttipong Dasom (195-F-1991) of Tigers - 24 points and 3 rebounds 7. Jamarr Johnson (198-SF-1988) of Louvre S. - 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists 8. JR Holder (198-SG-1994) of Saigon Heat - 21 points and 8 rebounds 9. Dominic Gilbert (198-G/F) of HK Eastern - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists 10. C.J. Gettys (213-C-1994) of Singapore S. - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
